FIRST, WHAT IS BLACK ROMANCE FOR TROLLS?
^{black romance is a type of troll romance that is fueled by hatred. a common depiction of blackrom is a kismesissitude which is a rivalry crossed with an attraction that comes from the aforementioned hatred. the constructs of a kismesis depend on the two parties being evenly matched in a way, take it as trying to see who is overall supreme. anyone who is weak in the relationship could result in an unfair powerbalance therefore nullifying the relationship.Another interpretation is given from terezi in the HOMESTUCK EPILGOUES (A.N: i must reread to fact check this, as i might be misremembering) where she describes a blackrom relationship as someone finding the true potential in another and having a desire to break them down to build them back up again to achieve that potential.}

GamQuius is commonly depicted as being a blackrom relationship because of it's intense nature in canon. Simply put, most of their interactions come off as lewd, crude and contained conflicting intentions.
Equius' first description of Gamzee is describing him to be a friend/enemy (a term that would technically mean the same thing in troll terminology. In conversations, Equius cannot make up his mind on how he approaches Gamzee. However, the main intent that shines through is his desire to "build" Gamzee into a true (by societies expectations) highblood.
He tries to teach Gamzee how to command trolls in a lower caste by initiating an E.R.P with him. It is confirmed Gamzee was aware of what Equius was implying with his words and he goes along with it to please Equius (Ironic roleswap there).
Pleasing isn't a common thing to happen in blackrom, however it can happen as a way to lead the relationship forward.
This actually makes Gamzee the troll with more power over the quadrant. He also does gradually get "broken down and rebuilt" and this is proven past this point as the story rolls over to Seek The Highblood.
It's unclear if Equius helped him reach the state he got to but Equius appears to be flustered and aroused after finding out the news of Gamzees breaking point. He is proud and sort of happy hearing this news. This tells us, the readers, that he placed alot of importance into Gamzee. He was happy his "lessons" he taught might of had an impact on Gamzee.
It is only Gamzee he has this level of happiness and feelings about as Eridan had some something similar to Gamzee yet Equius had no praise, no arousal or care about.
Infact, he insults Eridan for his behaviour which contrasts all of the justification and pride he put in for Gamzee.
This might've been seen as a Redrom scene as he is showing pride and happiness instead of hate and disgust, however it couldn't of been due to the basis of Redrom is technically against promoting behaviour like that from your partner.
